REFLECTIONS
Experience
In this module, I have learnt to apply elements and design principles such as continuity, emphasis, word and others to my own design, to raise public awareness on issues. Other than that, I also learnt how to interpret an artwork through visual analysis (observation, analysis and interpretation). Throughout this module, I also learnt how to convey my message to the audience by designing a poster for SDG.
Observations
I enjoyed looking at my artworks in different perspectives, brainstorming for different ideas, practical application of design principles, and looking at my friend's artwork. Despite the fact that we may share the same SDG goal, there is a variety of outcomes to our design. I also appreciate my lecturer, Dr. Charles who taught us in a fun way to keep us motivated. I find that applying design principles in my design is hard when I barely have any ideas in the beginning of the third task. Fortunately, I was able to find inspirations after doing some research online. While the module was engaging, there were times where I felt overwhelmed by the theoretical parts as learning should be balanced between theory and practice.
Findings
Throughout this module, I discovered that I enjoy experimenting with different layouts or design elements to achieve the desired outcome. For instance, I could use different designs to portray the same message by playing with the layout, size, text, and many more. Besides, it is important to sketch out our ideas to produce artwork that can convey the intended meaning effectively. I've also been more conscious of the design elements in everyday life, from advertisements to websites, which has enriched my learning journey. My passion towards designing remains unchanged as there are many ways to communicate the same idea. Including real-world industry examples might be one area to improve, as it would improve the students' comprehension of how design ideas are applied in our lives.
